‘The X Factor’ UK: Four of Diamonds were ‘manufactured’ be producers — but who cares?

In today’s edition of “watch the press make X Factor mountains out of molehills,” we have a case of people fretting on a serious level about the origins of one of the groups this season in Four of Diamonds, who apparently came together as a result of a process orchestrated by the show.

Rather than waste a lot of time explaining precisely what happened, let’s allow the show in a statement (per The Sun) take care of that for us. After all, we’ve got a good bit to say on the subject after the fact:

“Four of Diamonds did all apply for the show as soloists but didn’t make it past the first stage. They were then invited to take part in a workshop to form a group, the group then had to apply again to enter the show.”

Now, let’s get to the real point of this article, at least from our vantage point: Why on earth should we really care about this? Is this in any way influencing how we want to vote on the show? The reality here is this: This is a show that has a rather hefty shortage of groups who audition and are particularly good. This is why they have to form many of them on their own. Some of the best groups in the show’s history, whether it be One Direction or Little Mix, were formed by producers. You can even say the same thing about Fifth Harmony on the American version of the show. Sometimes, you need producers to pair up talent for you in order to form a group who meshes well.

Also, clearly you cannot sit here and say that production is rigging this to set Four of Diamonds up to do well over anyone else. After all, up until a short period of time ago, they were not even a part of the contest at all. Were it not for Brooks Way being booted, they’d be watching this from their couches across Britain.
