‘Call the Midwife’ season 6 spoilers: Prepare for devastation
Let’s face it: When you create an article title like this and ascribe it to the world of “Call the Midwife,” odds are that you could be talking about almost anything. This is a universe in which devastating times are relatively run-of-the-mill.
Yet, at the same time we get the sense, per some teasers that have hit social media, that there will be an event in season 6 that rivals some of the worst that the series has put its characters through to date. Will it be on par with the end of season 5, which brought us the death of Sister Evangelina? That is arguably for viewers to decide, but we can tell you that it will be a particularly somber occasion. (There is photographic evidence out there of the potential tragedy to come, but we have a policy against sharing such images here — they are an impediment to production and folks trying to do their job.)
Before we get to these harsh times, there will be a chance to see something rather different for the BBC series, which airs in the United States on PBS. For the upcoming Christmas Special, one of the primary orders of business is seeing how the women of Nonnatus House function halfway around the world in South Africa. Filming took place there earlier this year, and this will likely be a stepping stone to new developments in season 6 proper, premiering in early 2017.
For the most part, “Call the Midwife” is a closed-off set with very few secrets rising to the surface. To date, one of the biggest breaking stories surrounding it is the news that Miranda Hart (Chummy) will not be a part of season 6 due largely to her schedule changing and other commitments getting in the way.
