‘American Gothic’ season 2: Could it be renewed?
Tonight marks the end of the road for CBS’ new crime series “American Gothic,” one that had its fair share of drama, twists, and shocking situations over the course of the year.
Unfortunately, it appears as if it was always the plan for the story of the first season to end on Wednesday night. Were it something different, we imagine that the network would have opted to come up with a different promotional strategy than what they have above. What they ultimately did was smart. They had a really strong series for one season, and allowed themselves all of the flexibility in the world to come back later if they really wanted to. If they decided to not move forward with more story, they could claim that it was always meant to be a limited series all along.
Based on were the ratings are for season 1 at present, we would say that it is much more likely than unlikely that the show ends following the finale. The ratings just haven’t been great, and CBS may want to try out something different next summer. They gave viewers the full series presumably, so there’s nothing to begrudge them over.
If the numbers had been better, we do think that the show would be a lock for renewal even if this story ends. After all, you can simply come up with a new mystery with new characters at the center of it; or, do something similar to “Secrets and Lies,” where the majority of the original cast is gone and a character or two navigates over the next batch of episodes.
Do you think that there is any chance at all for an “American Gothic” renewal?

Wait, they brought back Zoo for more seasons, but not American Gothic? Zoo is right up there with Under the Dome, so stupid, poorly acted, poorly written and just plain bad that it turns into a laughable drama. Do they think everyone’s brains take the summer off? American Gothic was well acted, nobody said idiotic, obvious stuff, and wasn’t predictable, plus, even the bad characters were likable.
