‘Nashville’ season 5 could feature less of Connie Britton
Are we getting close to seeing the end of Connie Britton’s time on “Nashville“? On the same day that we’re hearing about the show’s return in January, we’ve found out some other news that certainly has us floored given how much effort went into the show eventually coming back on CMT.
According to a report from Entertainment Weekly, Britton has at present signed up to appear in ten of the upcoming fifth season’s 22 episodes. The report also says that it is likely that this will be her final season playing the character of Rayna. The number is still fluid, so there’s a chance that we see her appear in more than this when the dust settles.
Obviously, the idea of losing the actress / headlining star from the show would be a pretty enormous blow, but one of the strengths of this series at the same time is that it’s shown time and time again to be so much bigger than any one person. The title of the show isn’t “Rayna,” and the series is ultimately to us about the series and the music industry. While it’s going to be tough to come up with new characters that are as compelling as the ones we’ve already met, that is a part of the fun challenge for the series at present.
Given this latest development, we’re more sure than ever before that there’ll be a wide array of casting news coming over the course of the rest of the year. Stay tuned, since we’ll publish some of it the moment that it hits our desk.
