‘Big Brother 18’ live feed spoilers: Nicole, James, and the ‘good guys’ narrative
We now bring to you the latest example of one of the things that we despite the most with “Big Brother” or really any other reality show, for that matter: When certain contestants start getting into the idea that they are good and moral and therefore better than any other person that they’re competing against.
James and Nicole had a lengthy conversation about that this afternoon, one that certainly felt like this season was unfortunately going in that direction. Nicole told James that she’d be happy if either he or Corey won in the end because they were such good people, and James went on about how he would send Nicole and Natalie money in the event he won. (We’re not entirely sure talking about splitting winnings is allowed … so ironically the “good people” may be breaking the rules with that.) We also had a series of statements where Nicole tried to justify getting rid of Frank and Da’Vonne, claiming that she was not a snake, that she’s done “nothing,” and that people have yelled at her both times in which she’s played.
The thing about Nicole that bothers us the most as a viewer is the complete lack of responsibility she takes for her own actions. James is relatively similar in that regard. Sometimes, it’s great to act like you’ve done nothing in the game, but the problem there is that you’re reliant on other people knowing that you’re lying when you make it to the final two. If the jury is frustrated by Nicole’s stance and refusal to own her game, it could be easier to vote against her in the end if there is a palatable alternative there like a Michelle. There are reasons why recent players like Andy, Derrick, and Steve were able to overcome the labels that they carried with them throughout the game in the final two:
1. They went against players who were not respected by the jury.
2. They were able to sit up there and explain most of their moves. Andy and Steve in particular were fantastic in that regard; Derrick’s game was a little more clear before that point, so he didn’t have as much of a need to justify his actions.
If you missed it earlier, the reason for the self-praise going on here is James’ decision to target Victor this week, leaving Paul and Michelle as the only stragglers before the returning juror comes into the game.
