‘The X Factor’ UK: Simon Cowell praises old-school judging panel

X Factor -

The new season of “The X Factor” is merely a weekend away from its premiere on ITV, and with that in mind head honcho Simon Cowell seems eager to remind us of one thing: he’s really confident that this season will be a good one.

What’s the reason for that? Obviously he knows something about the talent level this season, but more than that he appears confident in the judging panel. Sure, having the likes of Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne on there does increase the average age, but he argues that is a good thing when it comes to experience, and giving viewers what he thinks they want. He spoke about that further per the Mirror:

“Listen I think when you try and be what you are not it’s a bit like dad dancing at a wedding. This show was never intended to be a cool show or a fashionable show, it is what it is. What this panel has, which is important, is experience of working in the music business. That’s what people, I think, really appreciate when they come in to see me and Sharon, who’s been a manager for a long time, as has Louis. They want people who have had life experience because they need some guidance.”

One other thing that Simon may not be mentioning here that is important is humor. Viewers want to be entertained! It’s about finding a star sure, but at the same time nobody’s holding the viewers’ feet to the coals forcing them to watch. You want to make sure they’re enjoying the process, and perhaps Sharon, Louis, and Nicole Scherzinger all realize that they don’t need to take themselves so seriously. We don’t see that as an age thing so much as a “being savvy to the show” thing. They’ve all been there and experienced it.
