TV Friendships: Where ‘Suits’ season 6 can take Mike, Harvey from here
Maybe you can say that “Suits” is a legal drama, and in terms of genre, maybe it is. Yet, we personally enjoy it best when thinking of it as a sort of odd-couple series about two guys who, despite their clear differences and questionable morality, managed to work together and do great work.
Here’s the problem: Mike wasn’t technically qualified to do that great work with Harvey, which is why they’re separated and Mike is spending time behind bars. Their friendship remains an integral part of the show, and it’s why Harvey has worked so hard to free him using any trick in the book. He misses having his friend around; it’s as simple as that. These are guys who could probably go to a bar after a long day’s work, and we don’t get the sense that Mr. Specter has that many people in his life he can do that with.
For the latest edition of our ongoing TV Friendships series, let’s analyze not only where we are now, but also where things could be going down the line.
Where we are now – Harvey has figured out a way to use William Sutter in order to get Mike freed from prison. The problem here is that in order to do so, he has to use information from Kevin Miller for a case with Sean Cahill. Mike now has said information, but he’s promised not to betray him since it would implicate Kevin’s life. The thing with Mike is that if you are his friend, he will fight to the end for you. He’s done it for Harvey, and how he’s at a moral crossroads with his cellmate.
Where we could go from here – What we would love to see is some classic Harvey / Mike teamwork where, whether it be through politics or persuasion, they come up with a way to grant Kevin’s wife immunity and still put Sutter away. Mike eventually could earn his release, and then find a new way to start working with Harvey, even if it is as some sort of private consultant. This is a compelling diversion from the norm, but eventually, we do want to see both guys suited up and working together once more..
