‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 4 spoilers: Check out the new Director (photo)

Jason O'Mara -

To think, there was a time earlier this summer when we wondered whether or not Marvel’s “Agents of SHIELD” was going to make us wait until the fall to learn the identity of the new Director. Given that they have plenty of other ways to torment us, whether it be the general plot or the presence of Ghost Rider, they decided to throw us a bit of a bone here and announce in advance that Jason O’Mara of “Vegas” and “The Good Wife” fame would be stopping by as the character.

Now, we’ve also got for you above the first photo of O’Mara in action! This image comes via TVLine, and the outfit itself suggests that we will see a very businesslike approach to the role. Then again, it makes sense to try to establish a sort of order or defined structure to the role, given that for the most part as of late, it has been defined so much more within chaos. We’ve had the influx of Inhumans and the arrival of Hive, and sentiment towards them in America may not be particularly positive.

O’Mara’s character is not going to enter the job with the same predisposed feelings towards Daisy Johnson or several other renegades on the run. The emotional attachment is not there. With the state of SHIELD being where it is at present, there is a certain element of politics and people-pleasing that goes into the job.

With the new Director leading the way, this yields Phil Coulson the opportunity to go about things his own way and operate more in the shadows. Given his relationship with Daisy, it makes sense that he would feel tremendous responsibility there.
