‘Mr. Robot’ renewed for season 3 by USA
Clearly, USA is not done telling the story of Elliot Alderson just yet.
On Tuesday, the network officially renewed “Mr. Robot” for a third season, a move that really should not come as much of a surprise to anyone. This is, after all, a show that has become a critical darling for many, and is considered one of the strongest and most innovative series currently on the air. While the ratings for the most part have been down versus season 1 (at least in live+same day data), there was no way that the network was going to wipe a show off the map that has generated arguably the most critical acclaim for them of any series since “Monk.” Even then, that show was getting most of its love thanks to the performance of an actor.
In a statement on the subject of the renewal, NBCUniversal Cable entertainment president Chris McCumber had the following to say on the big news:
“We couldn’t be more proud of Mr. Robot, a series that has pushed boundaries, captured the cultural zeitgeist and been honored as one of the best dramas on television … Midway through its second season, Mr. Robot continues to break new ground and open up new opportunities for the network. We can’t wait to see where [series creator] Sam Esmail and the entire brilliant Robot team take us next.”
The statement revealed that season 3 will premiere in 2017, though it did not specify when. Esmail has said previously that he would prefer having more time in order to perfect the show between seasons, so we hope it’s not a situation where he is supremely under the gun making the third season happen.
