‘Mr. Robot’ season 2, episode 7 preview: We are … family?

Tonight, “Mr. Robot” brought us a multiple-act story that we found to be all sorts of weird and wonderful. There were times that it was heartbreaking and poignant … and then there were times that it was a sitcom straight out of the 1990’s.

So how do we follow up that hug? All of a sudden, it appears as though Elliot and his father may (insert gasp here) actually be on the same page for the first time in a long time. Of course, that’s a little tricky when you consider that his father isn’t actually there. We’ll see whether or not the Mr. Robot relationship remains symbiotic, or if the cracks start to turn into crevasses before we know it.

As for what else is coming over the course of the hour, Darlene and Angela are going to pick up the pieces from their plan tonight, which led to the latter running into a certain agent, fresh off of her time in China and without some of the necessary steps of recovery. Their future path could prove interesting.

Finally, USA is teasing that Joanna will be given an ultimatum over the course of the next episode, whatever that may be. For now, the tease is a tad too vague for us to know for certain, but so long as the show finds its moments of emotional resonance to surround with its chaos and various form-plays, we’ll continue to love this show. We cannot say that we appreciate every choice or minute of the show (it does sometimes run long), but we respect the bravery and the never-say-die attitude.
