‘Pretty Little Liars’ season 7 spoilers: Whose former love interest is returning?

While we are still waiting for confirmation that “Pretty Little Liars” season 7 will be the show’s last, we do have even more mountain evidence that even more people are returning. Basically, what we have here in the end is evidence that the show is preparing for this to be the end; if nothing else, they’re ensuring that as many loose ends as possible are tied up.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the latest returnee to Rosewood and the series is Shane Coffey, who played the part of Aria’s love interest Holden back for several episodes in season 2. He was a longtime friend of hers who faked a romantic relationship with her for mutually beneficial purposes: She would be able to continue seeing Ezra in secret, while at the same time he could go off practicing martial arts without anyone knowing.

We did think there was some promise in this plotline, but over time it has become one of those plotlines that was placed almost out of mind. It took us a minute to even remember that it happened.

Coffey will return in the second half of the season, and who knows? Maybe the plan all along was for him to complicate her personal life down the road. All we know is that based on some recent developments, it is possible that she could be engaged to Ezra by the time he turns back up.

After a week off the air, the next new episode of “Pretty Little Liars” will be airing on Freeform Tuesday night.
