‘Game of Thrones’ season 6 accumulated ratings are enormous

Just how many people are really watching “Game of Thrones“? It’s certainly something that we like to look at, and unfortunately, it’s something that we often cannot get some clear numbers on week to week since live+same day ratings are really not considering things like streams, DVR playback, or repeats that air across HBO’s family of networks.

Now, we’ve seen the estimated weekly viewership through June 17, and it is STAGGERING. Per USA Today, roughly 23.3 million viewers are watching per episode, which is an incredible number when you remember first that this is premium cable, and then when you remember this is 2016. There are few shows that draw these sort of huge numbers; as a matter of fact, we’d consider in this measure that “The Big Bang Theory,” “NCIS,” and “The Walking Dead” may be some of the only other ones when you look at similar measures. Maybe some Netflix shows are in there, as well, but the streaming service remains incredibly reluctant to release anything when it comes to their own data.

“Game of Thrones” does have the finale still to go this season, and if anything could bump up the rating to another level, we certainly feel like this is it. After all, it’s Cersei’s trial, and given the stories that have been set up so far, it certainly seems possible that she could make a huge move that changes King’s Landing forever. Maybe we’re reading too much into rumors, but we’re excited to find out what happens. We’ll have more coverage of it every step of the way.
