‘Silicon Valley’ season 3 spoofs Facebook with ‘Tables’ ad (video)

We are going to have a chance later tonight to review in its entirety the penultimate episode of “Silicon Valley” season 3, but before we come around to that, why not have a little bit of fun with tables?

Specifically, we’re talking about the mock ad for Pied Piper that HBO prior to tonight’s episode, which we assume is something that is going to play a role in what’s to come. The relationship between tables and the company is certainly far-fetched, the commercial is incredibly pretentious and obtuse. This smells like an Erlich Bachmann creation if there ever was one, probably while he was under the influence of a thing or two.

The one thing that makes this ad even funnier is that this is a spoof of something that actually existed in real life in that emphasis Facebook’s infamous “Chairs” ad, which was also equally ridiculous and used to complicate something that was effectively very simple. We suppose that the biggest fundamental difference here is that for Facebook, they at least had the luxury of being fairly well-known at the time their ad was put out there. For Pied Piper, we definitely get the sense that they are still in the process of the climb, and they have a little bit of a ways to go before making it to the top … or at least what could be the top for them.

Ultimately, over the next two episodes we expect to see an array of good and bad developments for Pied Piper as it starts to find itself as a public company. We imagine that there will probably be some success stories, but we’d be shocked if they come without failures.
