‘Mr. Robot’ creator wants longer wait between season 2, potential season 3

Over the course of the past couple of years, we have started to see a little bit more flexibility when it comes to shows having longer waits from one season to the next. Series in Britain such as “Sherlock” have done this for some time, but now American programs like “Fargo” and “The Leftovers” are somewhat following the model. They’ve had a little more time to plot out their stories, and we feel like as a result of that, they’ve made better overall products that something that was rushed to the air.

Could “Mr. Robot” eventually do the same thing? We do at least know that this is something that show creator Sam Esmail is definitely interested in seeing moving forward. Speaking on this subject in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, he made it clear that premiering at the same time every year is yet another TV convention he wants to change:

“Personally, I think this is another weird, archaic judgment on television shows, where you have to bring them back at a certain schedule or you’re going to lose your audience … I’m just going to say this: I think it’s bulls–t, especially at the cost of the quality of the show.

“Is it better to rush something that’s not as good just to stay on schedule because you’re afraid of losing viewers? With the poor quality of writing or storytelling, you’re going to lose viewers anyway. I just think you’re shooting yourself in the foot by doing that.”

We do think that this convention used to be important, just because TV used to largely be dependent on appointment viewing. However, we don’t quite think that this is the case anymore, and we are starting to see more flexibility, and with streaming venues, most people are watching at their own pace, anyway.
