Selena Gomez honors ‘The Voice’ alum, longtime friend Christina Grimmie at concert

This weekend has unfortunately been filled with terrible news from Central Florida, starting with the death of Christina Grimmie and leading into the massive, shocking attack on a nightclub overnight that has left at least 50 people dead.

Many of us of course look to entertainment as a way to heal and recover from some of the terrible things in the world, but at times, even that can be difficult when the artists involved are in the process of healing themselves. This seems to be specifically the case for one pop star Selena Gomez, who paid tribute yesterday to her longtime friend Grimmie, who appeared on “The Voice” back in season 6. Christina was managed by her stepfather, and she has been around her life for the better part of eight years.

While at a concert, Gomez (per Deadline) had the following to say before giving a performance of the song “Transfiguration” in her honor:

“When she was 14, we met her – my parents and I signed her. And one thing about Christina and her family is that she holds her faith so closely to her. It’s not about her religion, and it’s not about good deeds. It’s just that she had faith. And I don’t really understand how this happened, but I would like to dedicate this next song to her.”

You can see that it is an emotional performance for Selena as she tries to fight off tears, and like for many of us, it is likely going to take some time before she starts to feel a little less numb after everything that has transpired.
