‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 4 spoilers: Clark Gregg on waiting to learn Director’s identity
Moving forward into the fourth season of Marvel’s “Agents of SHIELD,” there are a few questions worthy of wondering … with one of the biggest ones OF COURSE having to revolve around who is the new Director. We’re waiting for answers there, and it could be some time before we figure it out.
Heck, at the moment not even one of the stars in Clark Gregg really knows for sure one way or another. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly recently, the man behind former Director Phil Coulson offers up some theories, but also makes it clear that he is still waiting, as well:
“I was not given a clear answer … I don’t know that it’s been determined. I thought I was going to find out when I saw Civil War, but it’s not at all clear. It all depends when the glorious Nick Fury [Samuel L. Jackson] returns from the cold and the shadows. I suspect, in the wake of the Sokovia Accords and the end of Civil War, the people involved in choosing who the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be are other than in-house S.H.I.E.L.D. people. If I know my government bureaucracies, I have a feeling it will be someone somewhat less qualified than Coulson to run S.H.I.E.L.D.”
Would it be awesome if it were someone we already know? Sure, but maybe the producers are thinking of this as an opportunity to throw someone new into the mix and see what happens. There are some opportunities right now to try a little bit of experimentation. After all, just remember for a moment here that we’re probably losing Brett Dalton (Ward), and to go along with that we still don’t know what is happening with Adrianne Palicki (Bobbi) and Nick Blood (Hunter) now that “Marvel’s Most Wanted” is not happening.
