‘Blindspot’ episode 22: Marianne Jean-Baptiste on big Mayfair – Jane twist

Mayfair -

There are ultimately so many reasons why the twist on Monday night’s new episode of “Blindspot” was so sad. For one, we learned that Jane has not exactly been working for the team in the way in which it was first assumed. We’ve seen a much darker side now to this character, and because of some of the decisions that have been made, it could bring the entire FBI to their knees in some ways.

Also, there’s the other obvious twist here that we’ve lost Mayfair. The character may have been killed by Oscar, but in many ways Jane is equally responsible for putting her in a position where something like this could happen. Marianne Jean-Baptiste replayed to Entertainment Weekly what is going through her head during these finale moments for her character, and regret seems to be fairly close to the top of the list:

“It’s tough for Mayfair because she’s unable to warn her team, and her main concern is that they’re not harmed, because she knows how close Weller has gotten to Jane. It’s that powerlessness of just thinking, ‘My God, we’ve taken in the cuckoo into our nest, and she’s just going to bring everybody down and hurt what we’ve been working towards building.'”

Hopefully this is one of those characters deaths that does not happen in vain, and it does set up some crazy events that are going to be coming up the remainder of the season. For now, there is one thing that we are feeling pretty confident about: Jane and Weller are not going to have the future they once were.
