NBC’s ‘The Voice’ rankings: Where Emily Keener, Hannah Huston, Moushumi stand on Team Pharrell

VoiceWe’ve spent the past two days looking over all of the remaining artists on “The Voice” with a fine-toothed comb preparing them for the Live Playoffs starting Monday night, and we gotta say that doing this one for Team Pharrell Williams was the most difficult yet. The women on his team all have strong voices, and in many ways they have similar sensibilities. We can see some of them even being killer duo acts!

Still, we’re going to try to figure out where they all stand using the same criteria we always do: Performance quality, screen time, and past voting history for similar artists.

5. Lacy Mandigo – For Macy, her biggest problem is not so much what she did on the show as it is how well viewers know her. We’re not altogether sure that they do, given that her original Blind Audition was montaged. When you’re put into that position, there’s so much more pressure on you to make a lasting impression in the next two rounds, and she has an inherent disadvantage in the public vote.

4. Caity Peters – She has a very interesting tone, and we’ve seen her carry a lot of emotional songs. Can she do something that is a little bit faster-paced? There’s a big question mark there, which makes us hesitant to say that she is a sure thing moving forward into the playoffs. We do think that she’ll at least have a shot of moving forward based on what she does coming up.

3. Moushumi – We’re taking a little bit of a gamble on Moushumi here, given that her Battle Round was montaged and she’s at a screen-time disadvantage versus Caity and the two other singers still to come in this rankings piece. Based on what we’ve heard from her, we do think that she makes some really interesting song choices and has a command of the stage that we haven’t seen with many other artists this season. We wouldn’t be surprised if she really shocks some people tonight who are only lukewarm on her.

2. Emily Keener – We don’t know how Emily classifies herself musically, but if she wants to be a folk singer she’s got everything to take to make it happen. She’s got a great, earthy sound, and does so without some of those annoying affectations that we hear in other people’s voices to make them sound “unique.” She comes across as genuine, and we think there’s something about her that will appeal to many of the show’s voters.

1. Hannah Huston – Still, you gotta put the singing teacher #1! She’s got an amazing voice, but this show is just as much a storytelling engine as anything else and Hannah has a wonderful narrative thanks to her job and the way she comes out of her shell when she sings. We’d be stunned if America doesn’t put her through to the next round without Pharrell even needing to save her.
