Could a ‘Downton Abbey’ season 7 exist someday?
Tonight, “Downton Abbey” is coming to a close on PBS after six years on the air, but there is still one inevitable question that you really should be wondering at the end of all of this: Is this really going to be the end of the road for the show?
At the moment, the answer to this question seems to be a clear “yes” based on what executive producers Gareth Neame and Julian Fellowes have said. They are moving on, and the same thing can ultimately be said for the cast. Many of them have other gigs out there at the moment, whether it be Michelle Dockery over on TNT or Laura Carmichael on the stage. They don’t really need to do the show anymore, and we’re sure that for many of them, this is going to be a great opportunity to do something else after devoting such a huge percentage of their lives to this show. Eventually, a little bit of change can definitely be construed to be a good thing.
Moving into the future, though, we do think it is fair to ask questions about a movie / season 7 in a few years’ time. Fellowes is not necessarily abandoning the show forever, and the great thing about this series is that the family line will continue in some shape or form. You can move forward ten years and get an update on the surviving characters, or even establish a new generation at the time of the post-war era.
Ultimately, a movie seems much more likely than a full season of the show; we wouldn’t mind it coming in the form of a Christmas special, that way the series could still be some sort of semi-annual tradition. While this may appeal to us, though, we still want to hear what you think.
