Emmys 2016: Jimmy Kimmel in talks to return as host
Jimmy Kimmel may not be done with awards-shows just yet. The Primetime Emmy Awards tend to alternate networks on a four-year basis, and with the show coming to ABC later this year, it already makes sense that they would hire their king of late-night.
According to a new report from Variety, Kimmel is in talks to host the show when it premieres on ABC later this fall. It makes sense that they would go to someone seasoned in the role, given the fact that hosting is such a scrutinized job and he knows how to balance out snark with the few serious moments of the night. Also, there is of course a robust tradition of late-night hosts choosing to emcee the Emmys over the years. For example, we’ve seen Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers do the gig in recent years.
As for who Kimmel will be handing out the trophies to, that is still a mystery for the time being … but we anticipate that such shows as “Mr. Robot” and “The Leftovers” will be getting a good bit of attention. There are still some others that will be eligible that have not even premiered yet, and with that to a certain extent, we’re still buying our time.
Also, we’re going to have many more opportunities moving forward to discuss everything Emmys, whether it be our hopes for nominees or so much else. These are things that we will detail further once we roll around into June, most likely. We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves.
