‘Sherlock’ season 4: Looking back, forward, and everything in between (video)
We have to begin this new “Sherlock” article be recognizing reality: It is still a very long time until season 4 premieres on either the BBC or PBS in America.
Yet, that is not stopping us from continuing to enjoy almost anything and everything that we can pertaining to the show. Take, for example, the new video posted to the series’ PBS YouTube channel. In here, you can see Boyd Hilton hosting executive producers Sue Vertue, Mark Gatiss, Steven Moffat and actress Amanda Abbington as they detail some of the events of the recent “The Abominable Bride” special, and discuss how some of these came about.
As for how this applies to the upcoming fourth season, think along the lines of groundwork. We feel like this special was in many ways about Sherlock trying to conquer his own demons and his obsessions, at least when it comes to Moriarty and the notion that he’s missed something. He is perpetually a tormented soul, and while he may have figured a thing or two out mentally now, we’re not sure that part of his personality will ever truly go away.
Think of this video as, more than anything else, a further way to think critically about these characters, the themes that were so beautifully crafted on the show, and also some of the ideas that could be toyed with moving forward. Even though the wait may be long, all indications at the moment suggest it will indeed be worth it.
