‘Reign’ season 3, episode 9 preview: ‘Wedlock’ and wedding wars

“Reign” season 3 returned to The CW with new episodes on Friday night, and moving into next week’s installment “Wedlock” we’re going to see one complicated plot play out that puts Mary, Elizabeth, and Don Carlos front and center. Is there going to be a battle over who ends up getting to marry this man for political reasons? It’s possible, but there could be more to the story than you see in the promo, or in the synopsis below:

“Mary (Adelaide Kane) becomes suspicious of Prince Don Carlos’ (guest star Mark Ghanimé) true condition and relies on Gideon (Ben Geurens) to help her uncover the truth. Elizabeth (Rachel Skarsten) makes a shocking discovery which could change the course of her reign over England and forces Dudley (Charlie Carrick) to make a tough decision. Meanwhile, Narcisse (Craig Parker) forces Claude (Rose Williams) to marry someone of his choosing, against her wishes.”

This episode should be rather interesting in what it could mean for many of these characters in the long run. What we wonder for now is whether or not the show is moving a little too fast in bringing up such topics as political marriages so soon. Viewers are a sensitive bunch, and Francis did not die all that long ago.

Then again, this is a historical story that is meant in a certain way to be reflective of real life, and maybe this is the sort of timeline that characters had. Not only that, but we don’t know whether or not there will be a fourth season just yet.
