‘Mike & Molly’ season 6 will reportedly be the last on CBS
For all of those wondering whether or not “Mike & Molly” could still have a long life coming up on CBS, we come bearing some bad news: The upcoming sixth season of the series premiering at some point next year will be the show’s last. Given its status as a bit of a midseason replacement, plus the busy schedule of star Melissa McCarthy, this is something that we did eventually anticipate. However, it does not make it any less sad.
In a post on Facebook, actress Rondi Reed made it clear that the show was ending, but did not specify a specific reason:
“Before you hear it elsewhere (and some already have) this is the final and sixth season of Mike & Molly on CBS … It is also a shortened season (13 episodes) after the announced full renewal of 22 episodes back in March by the network. We are done taping as of Jan. 27, 2016, and I am not sure exactly when/if the episodes will all be aired. The network has its reasons, and I will not get into a debate, discussion or campaign to get them to change their minds. Other venues were explored by WB and Bonanza Productions (Chuck Lorre) after CBS announced their intentions, but did not turn up a future for our show. It is a fact and we have known for a few weeks. I remain extremely grateful to have been a part of this and to have worked with a fabulous bunch of folks over the years. I have learned a lot about many things, including the business we call show. Also grateful for all the fans and for the personal support I have received over the (almost) six seasons. Stewart Talent has guided me every step of the way on this journey and for that I am also forever grateful.”
Based on the message it seems to be mostly a network decision to end the show, which means that you can probably say that McCarthy’s schedule probably has little to do with it ending. It’s probably more just the fact that CBS is the only network really killing it with traditional sitcoms these days, and aside from them it may be hard for a show like this to find a home.

‘Last on CBS?” It sort of infers that someone else is going to pick up the show. I doubt that will happen. Did Ms. McCarthy want too much money to stay, or did she want out so she could make movies full time? I’m not a fan of her movies. Another show that CBS will need to replace.

Everything I’ve heard suggests that she enjoyed doing the show — plus sitcom schedules are lighter than most TV so she could continue to do it and make movies. As for “last on CBS,” in this day and age we’ve learned to never call anything 100% dead in the water.

Hopefully, some more information will come out about this, or someone who really knows will fill us in. I’m sure there will be lots of happy people if the show comes back. Yes, anything can happen. The last Packers-Lions game showed us that.
