‘The Flash’ season 2 spoilers: Will Velocity 6 eventually become Velocity 9?
During the crossover event for “The Flash,” one of the more important non-crossover stories was seeing Jay Garrick use Harrison Wells’ new Velocity 6 formula as a means to save him, even if he was reluctant to ever use it as a lab rat. He figured out that it works, but resolved to never use it again.
What’s the endgame here? Eventually, Dr. Wells wants to figure out a way to provide Barry Allen an aid in his battles with Zoom, and this may just be precursor to something known as Velocity 9. As executive producer Andrew Kreisberg teases to Entertainment Weekly, this is something that definitely does have some established roots already within the world of the comics:
“If you’re a fan of the comics, you know that a big part of the comics is Velocity 9. [In the crossover event] you met Velocity 6. It’s safe to say there will be a few more iterations of that formula. How it plays out and how it works and who uses it and the effects that it has, that’s something you’ll have to watch.”
Hopefully the arrival of Velocity 9 will come with a certain degree of fanfare, and with some other advantages and disadvantages. We don’t want there to be per se something that just gives The Flash or any other meta-human untapped power; there needs to be some sort of a downside to it, as well.
As for Zoom, there’s no confirmation that we are even going to see him in the midseason finale Tuesday; for the time being, we cannot even say for certain who it is.
