‘Reign’ season 3, episode 5 reaction: Show boss breaks down Francis’ inevitable end
We’d say that there are huge spoilers ahead from Friday night’s new episode of “Reign,” but the reality here is more that these are spoilers from history and life. The CW basically gave away in promos that “In a Clearing” would be the last for the Francis character, and it was following the last premonition from Nostradamus that you would want to come true. Right when he started to recover from his illness, he then died in horrific fashion.
So how will the show focus on Mary’s journey from here? History buffs know where we are going, and executive producer Laurie McCarthy makes it clear to Entertainment Weekly that as a result of this, we’re only going to continue to see her fight more than ever before:
”I think she’s going to recover because she will find her strength … It puts her in frankly a scrappier position because she’s not just losing the love of her life, she’s losing the alliance with France and what that foretells is that at some point, she’s going to return to Scotland, she’s going to lay claim to the throne that is actually her throne in the country that she was born to rule. And we’re very well positioned for that to be coming down the line very much in the same way that this season we’re expanding to the court of Elizabeth, to England. It’s actually going to give her more stories and more challenges.”
Is it possible that there could be another love story in Mary’s future? We know that Francis wants her to, and it’s possible that something will happen … eventually. We do not imagine that the show is going to be in much of a hurry to push that story forward.
