Ratings: ‘Shark Tank,’ ‘Blue Bloods’ rise as ‘MasterChef Junior’ premieres down
While there may still be an audience out there for “MasterChef Junior” on Fox, it is not exactly the same audience that it once was. After all, we’ve got the latest bit of evidence of that below.
The winners – First, let’s start with “Shark Tank” (1.6 in the 18-49 demographic) actually looking and feeling a little bit more like the “Shark Tank” that we thought the show was going to be going into this season. This is a nice increase from the past few weeks, and it may have been helped by the small cameo from Jimmy Kimmel at the end of the show hyping up his new innovation the Kid Cone — something we didn’t even bother to mention in our review from the last episode.
Also worth noting last night is the rise of “Blue Bloods” back to a 1.2 rating. It is remarkable that the Tom Selleck series can be the most-watched show on Friday night by an extremely wide margin week in and week out, but never get any real publicity for it. The good news is that it would make zero sense for CBS to end a show that continues to have a loyal following, especially since it would spark some concerns that they care only for young viewers.
The losers – As we mentioned “MasterChef Junior” (1.3) premiered down by a wide margin versus its last season, but given the season that Fox is having beyond “Empire” and to an extent “Gotham” and “Rosewood,” they’ll take it. This show is extremely cheap to make in comparison to scripted offerings, and they can plug it in anywhere. Therefore, it’s not really that much of a loss.
Also, “Grimm” (1.0) dropped versus the last episode, and “Truth Be Told” (0.6) continues to truthfully stink up the place over on NBC.
