‘The Leftovers’ season 2 spoilers: How will Ann Dowd surface this time?

Leftovers -There was a big surprise for many of us earlier this year when we learned that Ann Dowd was going to be returning to “The Leftovers” as a series regular. After all, the general sentiment for just about everyone out there was that the character was dead. How in the world was this happening?

As it turns out, there is a plan for throwing this character back into the fray, and it is going to revolve around having her become a ghost hovering over Kevin Garvey’s shoulder. Maybe she is a part of his conscience, or maybe it is a sign that he is really starting to lose his mind and cannot escape from his past. Either way, Dowd was fantastic on the first season and while we’re not sure we would like this particular idea for almost any other show, it could work out rather well here thanks to its supernatural and mysterious undertones.

If you’re looking for a further explanation as to how this twist is going to work out, just take a look at what executive producer Damon Lindelof has to say in a new interview with TV Guide:

“It’s a Shakespearean device … On Dexter, for example, or Six Feet Under, those characters, Dexter and Nate, respectively, speak to their fathers, but we understand they’re not literally seeing them. We are trying to express that Kevin is literally seeing and hearing Patti. For now, at least, Kevin is ignoring Patti. He is refusing to acknowledge her, and she’s demanding to be acknowledged. That will probably shift as the season goes on.”

Eventually, it is very well possible that we see Kevin start to actually listen to the voice of the former Guilty Remnant leader, and as you would imagine, this could cause problems and plenty of them.
