Is ABC’s ‘Quantico’ set to be the new ‘How to Get Away with Murder’?
On Sunday night, ABC is set to premiere a show in “Quantico” that on the surface, has the potential to be one of the more intriguing entries in the fall lineup. You’ve got a charismatic star in Priyanka Chopra who is still being introduced to American audiences, and the show has had a rather thorough marketing campaign that has hyped up a central mystery surrounding whether or not Chopra’s character of Alex Parrish will be able to help the country that she has wanted for so long to protect.
However, will this show actually become a hit? We feel like there are some things that it has going for it, from the premise to the aforementioned marketing, which does give us a little bit of a “How to Get Away with Murder” vibe. The main difference there is that this show had a huge lead-in courtesy of “Scandal,” and it also has a huge star at the helm in Viola Davis.
The one other part of this show we’re a little concerned about here is the name and those who may understand the premise here, thinking that this is just a show about young men and women training to be operatives at Quantico. Some may just think that this is “Covert Affairs,” only on network television.
You can watch the first eight minutes of the series below, and we feel like for the most part, it is entertaining. However, there are a few cliches here and there in there, and we’re going to need the show to be a little more innovative with some of its specifics the rest of the way to truly become a hit.
We’ll have some other news on “Quantico” soon enough, so be on the lookout for them!

The other potential problem for Quantico to gain traction is its placement on ABC Sunday. It starts with Once Upon A Time and its decent, but not huge ratings. Then at 9pm, there’s another newbie drama, Blood & Oil, which will be in need of traction itself before it can be a solid lead-in to Quantico at 10pm. ABC is asking a lot by placing two freshman series back-to-back on Sunday night to fill the slots vacated by Revenge and low-rated (but renewed) American Crime. It will be interesting to see how both newbies fare.
