Emmys 2015: Tracy Morgan makes triumphant TV return to present Drama Series award
While for the most part the Emmys are a predictable affair, the show on Fox Sunday night did still find one incredible way to surprise both us and almost everyone in attendance: By having Tracy Morgan present the final award of the night: Outstanding Drama Series.
Before leading up to the award, Tracy thanked the doctors and his friends and loved ones for helping him get back to his old self after nearly losing his life in a truck accident that killed his friend James McNair and put him into a coma. After that, he told a joke about waking up only to learn that it wasn’t his fault. Then, he made a classic Tracy joke about getting people pregnant at the afterparty, and that was the biggest reminder that we have seen that the comic still has some of that trademark talent, even if he does probably still have a ways to go to get back to his old self.
Morgan ultimately gave the award to “Game of Thrones” (read the full list of winners here), a show that clearly had itself a heck of a year when it comes to snagging trophies. It dominated most of the categories in which it was nominated other than Supporting Actress, and even scored awards this year for both writing and directing. For a genre show, this is hugely impressive.
As for when you can see Tracy again, the simple answer is that he is going to be hosting “Saturday Night Live” come October 18, which will be a real chance to see him back with so many old friends.
