‘Fear the walking Dead’ spoilers: Will trouble find Madison and Travis throughout season 1?

The reality is that we as human beings often just do not know how we are going to react to extraordinary circumstances. Therefore, it was virtually impossible for us to know beforehand how we were going to end up seeing two people like Madison and Travis function within the world of “Fear the Walking Dead.” Sure, in normal life they found a way to have a strong relationship, and develop a blended family that only had to deal with the same sort of problems that almost every couple deals with.

In setting up some of what the couple is going to be going through over the next five or so episodes, we do feel like showrunner Dave Erickson really puts it well in his new interview with TV Guide on the subject:

“By the end of the first season, [Madison and Travis] will be unrecognizable to each other … They will both embrace or not embrace the apocalypse in different ways. … One of them is going to get it a lot sooner than the other, and that will lead to a great deal of friction and a fracture.”

This certainly does not mean that the couple is over, but it does represent to us even more that they are going to have to uncover some new means to make themselves function in these unusual, crazy circumstances. Part of the joy of this series could be watching the characters’ ebb and flow. While there is definitely a survival-horror component to this story, at the same time we feel like the humanity here is plunged even more into the forefront than it is for the flagship show.
