‘Shark Tank’ revisited: You Kick Ass, ZOOM Interiors, Sunscreen Mist, SynDaver Labs, Squatty Potty
We have to be honest: The repeat of “Shark Tank” airing on ABC Friday night is not our favorite one. After all, the original episode was somewhat underwhelming when it comes to big deals. There are a couple of products that we like to a certain extent, but as a consumer none of them have us ready to throw money at our television. Our favorite is probably an action figure with your face on it, but we still think it could be even better than it is.
The listings for this episode suggests that the update segment is on Squatty Potty, which is only weird to us because it feels like we just discussed them a few weeks ago. Obviously, the opinion remains the same: They’re one of the show’s larger success stories. Then again, we feel like they were already on their way before even appearing.
ZOOM Interiors – This is a case of a business just continuing to do what they do best, which is offer a different sort of interior-design service. We don’t really sense a dramatic change sense the show, but there really doesn’t need to be here so long as they are getting clients. We’re not sure this is ever going to be a huge corporation raking in tens of millions, but the show could help them turn this into a nice, profitable company.
Sunscreen Mist – The product is still out there and they are even marketing a wide array of sunscreens / suntan lotions to go within it. We even think that there is a market for this out there for people who forget to put on sunscreen at home whenever they go to the beach. The problem is that these machines are expensive, and without some sort of lengthy proof-of-concept period it was difficult to convince the sharks to want to invest in this. It’s probably what doomed this product in the end on the show.
SynDaver Labs – We’re still shocked that this business is even on the show, even though we’ve already seen their entire package once. We felt the first time that they had a quality product and that remains; the truth here is that there’s just not that much of an audience out there for synthetic human cadavers. The real hope here is just that a training hospital or some other commercial buyer will want to shell out the huge amount of money that it costs to buy some of these.
You Kick Ass – It feels like the business has taken some leaps forward since when they were last on the show, and their website certainly contains more examples of what they can do. We do really like the product for the most part, though we do almost wish there was even more customization with the costumes and the backstory beyond just a face.
