‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ gets its first marquee!

Late ShowWhile it has probably felt official to Stephen Colbert for quite some time that he was going to be the host of the next iteration of “The Late Show,” it has to feel even better now that he’s got his name on the Ed Sullivan Theater marquee, right? The photo below via “Access Hollywood” is the first look we’ve had at the new marquee, which was home to “The Late Show with David Letterman” for many years. As expected, the red-and-blue color scheme in the promotional logos for the show is kept.

If we were going to get into the game of providing heavy criticism for marquees, the one thing that we would say here is that the front of it really should have Colbert’s name on it. It makes no real sense for it to be just “The Late Show with” minus the name of the person hosting. (Yes, we know it does still say it on the sides.)

The new version of “The Late Show” starts on September 8, and it will feature Colbert really being himself for the first time as a host of a late-night host. There are similarities between him and the character he played on “The Colbert Report,” but the idea here is to play to a much wider audience than Comedy Central.

We suppose that as we near that premiere, there will be even more great news on the show to report. Be on the lookout for some of that soon!
