‘Falling Skies’ season 5 spoilers: Someone is taken hostage!
There are some depressing times coming on “Falling Skies,” but we imagine that you probably could have predicted this to a certain extent judging on where we are at the moment. The Espheni presence is still large on planet Earth, and while Tom may have a plan, the problem here is that he doesn’t have unity in the slightest. The fact that tomorrow’s episode is entitled “Pope Breaks Bad” is proof that there are some dark times ahead as he tries to figure out if there is a way to get a tiny sliver of humanity on the same page.
Unfortunately, we have some bad news coming: Pope is probably not going to start to get along with Tom at any point Sunday night. Judging from the synopsis below from the July 26 episode entitled “Non-Essential Personal,” Tom may have to rescue his son from him! Not only that, but Weaver is going to be involved in a dangerous hostage situation:
“The 2nd Mass leaves Chinatown en route to what they hope will be the final Espheni battle. Along the way, they encounter a deranged and desperate gunman who takes Weaver hostage. Meanwhile, Tom sets off to rescue Hal from Pope and his dangerous group of survivors.”
Ultimately, this episode is indicative in many ways of one of the show’s overall themes: Humanity can sometimes be its own worst enemy. You need to be united sometimes to take down your opponents, but getting people to put their differences in strategy and ideology aside is no easy task. That may be Tom’s biggest challenge even more so than taking on an alien presence once and for all.

That was horrible what Mason did last week. Could Pope just eliminate Tom and get it over?
