‘Sherlock’ season 4 preview arrives; Benedict Cumberbatch sends in video message at Comic-Con
There was a “Sherlock” panel today at San Diego Comic-Con, and while star Benedict Cumberbath was not in attendance, he still found a way to make his presence felt. The actor sent in a video message for the series’ panel discussion, and it turned out to be quite the lively affair.
Why is that? Let’s begin first and foremost with the first video footage of the upcoming Christmas Special! This is the presumed air date for this in the BBC, though no specific date has been articulated yet for the airing on PBS. (Our assumption, though, is that it will be either on December 25 or close to it; there’s no real reason to delay it much.) This sneak peek is pretty grand, given that you’ve got Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman, and a Victorian setting heavily featured here. In case you forgot, the show is traveling back in time (but not in a “Doctor Who” fashion) in order to give you more of what would be Sherlock’s original flavor as told by Arthur Conan Doyle.
Executive producer Steven Moffat has also confirmed that the special will get some sort of theatrical release around the world, which is a further cause of celebration. Given that Benedict is a movie star at this point, doesn’t that make a whole lot of sense?
The fourth season of “Sherlock” will be written later this year, with the hope being that it will come out at some point in 2016. Time will tell on that.
