Brian Williams will speak with Matt Lauer in interview soon
Given that Brian Williams is apparently going to be sticking with NBC News in some capacity, you shouldn’t be that shocked that one of his first appearances will be with a show that is firmly in this family: “The Today Show.”
Per a report from CNN, Williams has already sat down to film an interview with Matt Lauer, and it is for the time being set to air on NBC Friday. However, that could change because of coverage of the tragic shooting in Charleston, giving that Savannah Guthrie and many other reporters from other networks have all traveled there to report a little more extensively. This is turning out to be an exciting week for “Today,” given the fact that they already had a chance to speak with Rachel Dolezal, the former leader of the Spokane NAACP who stepped down after it was revealed that she was pretending to be an African-American.
Do we think that this interview will be particularly revealing? Yes and no. We doubt that there will be anything particularly in-depth that comes out of this, given that NBC will not want to cannibalize itself. Also, at the same exact time it is not exactly like Williams has any reason to have beef, given that it was his own comments and embellishments who caused him to be in this position in the first place.
Current rumors at the moment suggest that Williams is going to be taking a different job over at MSNBC, while Lester Holt is going to remain the lead anchor of the NBC Nightly News, becoming the first African-American man to hold this position for the network.
