Could a ‘Wayward Pines’ season 2 happen? Don’t rule it out
“Wayward Pines” to us has been one of the more intriguing entries in the summer TV lineup. While it did not necessarily premiere to huge numbers, it has kept them steady almost the entire season. Do you know how hard it is, especially in the summer, to keep people interested in watching something? It’s almost impossible.
Yet, the show has somehow managed to pull this off, though it is still to be seen if many of these viewers are going to continue to be aboard the series now after they pulled one of their biggest, most-shocking moves yet: Launching us forward a good 2,000 years! Save for those familiar with the source material, this move may have caught you completely off guard.
So is it possible that Fox will see these numbers and want more? It seems like it, but that was not always the point here. For more on that, just take a look at what executive producer Chad Hodge had to say to TVLine:
“There’s a hint of [future possibilities], but Wayward Pines was always designed to be just these 10 episodes. So the promise that we’ve been making — which is that there’s a beginning, middle and end in these 10 episodes — is a real promise and we deliver on it. Could there be a possibility of a Season 2? Sure, of course, and you’ll see a window to that, but it also is a complete ending as it is.”
If nothing else, it feels like the writers and producers of the show can be happy with the fact that they have told a reasonably complete journey, one that they can look back on with somewhat of a smile as they play out on TV. We’ll deal with season 2 possibilities later.
