‘The Fosters’ season 3 spoilers: Jake T. Austin’s role of Jesus to be recast
During last night’s season 3 premiere episode of “The Fosters,” it was made fairly clear that the character of Jesus did not die as a result of the car crash that took place at the end of season 2 (which we actually thought was a dream for a certain amount of time). Now, we’re learning that we actually are going to be seeing the character again … just not played by Jake T. Austin.
Following the actor’s decision to depart the series at the end of last season, TV Guide is reporting that the ABC Family series is going to recast the role. Our assumption was that Jesus being away would allow the show an easy manner in which to write him out, but that is not the case. Recasting the part is something that we often seen with minor characters, but it is a little bit unorthodox to see a big move like this done on a show that already has a solid two seasons in the can, with Jesus being a big part of the story.
At this point, it’s a little too early to tell if this was the right move or not for them. Obviously, they have big plans for the Jesus character, and they don’t want Austin’s exit to dictate everything that they do. However, at the same time the drawback here is that many fans were accustomed to him, and any new actor they have will have to face some constant comparisons, not all of them fair ones.
