‘Sherlock’ season 4 will film in spring 2016; hope you are fine with waiting…
While you are going to be getting an all-new “Sherlock” special later this year that transports Sherlock Holmes and John Watson into a more familiar Victoria era (at least for those who love the source material more than anything else), it appears as though you may be waiting for a while longer still to see the next season of full episodes in production.
At the BAFTA TV Awards today, show executive producer Steven Moffat confirmed per the Radio Times that it will not be until the spring of next year that the next season of the show actually enters production. Isn’t that a rather daunting period of time to wait? That means more than likely that the earliest we will see the new season is fall 2016, which is a solid two and a half years after all of season 3 aired.
While this is a pretty horrendous wait no matter how you slice it, there is still ultimately a silver lining here that merits at least a little bit of excitement. Remember here that Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are clearly very busy men these days, and neither one of them ultimately has to keep doing the show. They’d be plenty famous working on other projects. In getting to set their own schedule more or less, this enables them and by extension us a chance to see as much of the show on the air as we ultimately can without them getting burned out or hindered in any way.
If there is a season 5 that comes after this one, you better be prepared to wait a rather long time again!
