‘Battle Creek,’ ‘Stalker,’ and ‘The McCarthys’ canceled by CBS

As we get deeper and deeper into Friday night, we’re starting to get more and more of a sense of just what CBS is plotting out at the moment for some of their upcoming shows. For the time being, though, we can tell you that three are officially canceled: “Battle Creek,” “Stalker,” and “The McCarthys.”

While none of these are a surprise, it is still sad, especially when it comes to “Battle Creek” for us. We found it to be an especially engaging and at times cop show (a rarity for CBS) that really suffered from a pretty terrible timeslot and a name that did not really suit anything other than the show’s setting. “Stalker,” meanwhile, at least had a solid cast led by Maggie Q and Dylan McDermott, but just couldn’t get the ratings after multiple kicks at the can.

As for “The McCarthys,” it just followed a general rule for CBS that if you are the lowest-rated comedy on the schedule, you are probably going to be canceled. There is really very little else that you can say about that.

We anticipate that at least another cancellation or two is coming from The Eye, and they may be more painful than any of these given that “CSI,” “Blue Bloods,” “Hawaii Five-0,” “Person of Interest,” and “The Amazing Race” are all heavily on the bubble. We’re assuming “Elementary” will be back just for syndication reasons alone if nothing else. We’d be more worried about “NCIS: Los Angeles” were it not for the fact that they are already filming for next season.
