‘Community’ season 6, episode 4 preview: How dare you question Chang’s acting skills?!
Dean Pelton getting a potential promotion. The return of drama class. Do you really need any other reason to watch Tuesday’s new “Community” on Yahoo? beyond these two glorious events? If so, how about a reminder that this season is pretty darn good and we are lucky that it even exists after everything this show has gone through over the years.
We’re not going to say that every episode or joke has necessarily been pitch-perfect, but “Community” is known for slower starts. Think of it as a snowball rolling down the top of a mountain in January. Eventually, that snowball is going to crash into some things, and then some little snowballs are going to fly off and crash into some other things. Then, those snowballs eventually melt into glorious icy pools of joy, and that is when the closing minutes of the finale wash over you and you are left with that satisfied feeling of another great season.
In this episode, the snowballs come via Annie and Chang auditioning for a play, which leads to the latter in particular being completely reamed out. We love Ken Jeong this season so much. Dan Harmon and company have completely submitted to the idea that Chang will always be a mentally-unstable outsider desperate to fit in, and this leads to him being available for a variety of extreme antics. Jeong may also be the most game for pretty much an role thrown at him. In between this show and “The Hangover” movies, he has said yes to some of the most fun and crazy roles out there in Hollywood.
Also, the idea of Dean getting more power is terrifying, but also somewhat-fun. He’s the ultimate figurehead, but he is also a complete idiot when it comes to running the school (a dog almost got a degree!). That being said he gets the acclaim for the occasional victory which we can’t help but cheer for. There just so happens to be a few more victories in recent weeks than there have been in the past few years… That is a lot to celebrate.
