Ratings: ‘Scandal’ season 4, ‘The Blacklist’ season 2, ‘American Idol’ all decline

The first Thursday after Daylight Savings Time came, saw, and conquered most of the primetime TV lineup. Across the board, ratings were down more than 5% from the week before, and we saw quite a few examples of shows that really could use a nice bump in the right direction once again.

Just some of the shows to receive lower ratings this week included “American Idol” (1.7), “The Blacklist” (1.7), “The Big Bang Theory” (4.4, still very good all things considered), and “Scandal” (2.6). Sure, there may be other reasons why the numbers are lower, from competition to quality (“The Blacklist” basically aired a clip show last night), but the fact that there are always ratings declines once Daylight Savings Time comes in makes it more than just an excuse. It’s something networks have to prepare for.

Strangely enough, there were still some victories on the schedule for the most part. “Elementary” (1.5) actually improved its stock week-to-week, while “Reign” (0.4) at least held steady to its previous number.

Meanwhile, we’re just waiting to see when “The Slap” (0.6) is moved to Saturdays or canceled outright. We know that it is a miniseries, but even still these numbers are horrendous and the show should be put out of its misery. We’re still somewhat confused about why in the world anyone thought that this was going to be a great idea in the first place; who in America, regardless of the performances, wants to watch a show themed around an adult slapping a child? It just leaves such a weird taste in the mouths of many when you hear about it.

Of the other shows mentioned, “Elementary” is ironically the only one that may need to worry about its fate.
