‘Call the Midwife’ season 4 finale review: A Delia – Patsy shocker; Trixie’s spiral; Chummy’s return
Given that tonight marked the season 4 finale for “Call the Midwife,” we assumed that there would be at least one or two surprises that the BBC and Heidi Thomas had in store for us. With that being said, we were hoping that none of them were going to be as devastating as what we ended up having.
The big reveal during this episode was that Delia had been struck while on her bicycle, and as a result of this, suffered a severe form of memory loss. This meant that when Patsy arrived, Delia had no idea who she was. Heartbreaking, especially for those who have noted the large number of lesbian characters who have been killed off in some way lately.
Delia was not the only character in a vast need of healing in this episode; over the course of the past few weeks, Trixie has started to fall apart to the point where there was nothing behind that smile. She was becoming not only addicted, but also having dark thoughts questioning her entire value in life. Eventually, she was put into a care program, and maybe she’ll be able to find that smile again. We can only hope so. This current state for the character is unbelievably sad.
One of the rare happy moments tonight was seeing the return of Chummy to the series, who has been gone for stretches of time. We wonder at this point just how much of Miranda Hart we’re going to have moving forward. We don’t think giving us half-and-half is really going to work in the long-term.
At least we ended with the wedding of Fred and Vi, right? He finally won the approval of his doubtful daughter, and they each had a chance to celebrate with the ceremony that they wanted. Episode Grade: B+.

Was lovely to see chummy making more of an appearance, and what can you say about Trixie–Brilliant acting as always .in fact the whole cast are brilliant actors. Re: Patsy & Delia Not Again!! what is it with the bbc,, why can’t lesbian’s have happy endings. Perhaps the narrative again?
