Oscars 2015: John Travolta, Idina Menzel get a mea culpa on ‘Adele Dazeem’
Good news when it comes to Idina Menzel and John Travolta: Everything is seemingly in the past. Last year, these two were front and center for what has to be one of the most embarrassing gaffes in the history of the Academy Awards when Travolta somehow managed to pronounce the Broadway megastar’s name as “Adele Dazeem.”
Tonight when the two came out to introduce the Original Song category, they did so with a good laugh, a huge, and Menzel deliberately messing up Travolta’s name. she then commented that this was going to follow her around for basically the rest of her life, which is probably true.
Isn’t any publicity good publicity, though? As embarrassing as that moment may have been, both performers are moving on and doing rather well. For example, Travolta is set to be one of the stars for the upcoming “American Crime Story,” which is going to be airing on FX hopefully later this year. Meanwhile, Menzel has a potential comedy project coming up, though it is not entirely clear yet if it will land on a network. She also will be voicing Elsa yet again for a short film that is premiering before Disney’s new “Cinderella” movie in theaters.
The award ultimately went to Common and John Legend for their performance of “Glory” in the movie “Selma,” who gave an incredible performance with a choir during the show. This was their second huge TV performance in the past few weeks, as they also performed one at the Grammys.
