‘Survivor: Worlds Apart’ castaway spotlight: Will Kelly Remington put the competition in handcuffs?
While Kelly Remington may have the shortest bio out of anyone for “Survivor: Worlds Apart,” she did have this to say when it comes to her personal claim to fame: “My career because I get to use my pepper spray, handcuffs, night stick and Taser before I even walk out of the house.” Hey-o! That sort of humor probably says more about her personality than a longer bio would, anyway.
What is interesting about Kelly as a contestant this season is that she seems to have a whole lot going for her, in between her having great social skills, being in pretty good shape, and also not being an obvious threat from the get-go. However, there are still some things that we are worried about that could keep her from becoming the second cop in three seasons to walk away with that Sole Survivor title.
Name – Kelly Remington
Age – 44
Location – Grand Island, New York
Occupation – State trooper
Tribe – Escameca a.k.a. Blue Collar
Strengths – She’s a former bartender, so she will be a rare cop who doesn’t really act like a cop. You have to remember that “Survivor: Cagayan” is the last season these players saw, so the will have Tony Vlachos on the brain. We wouldn’t tell a soul about her real profession. Given that she is a state trooper, you have to think she’ll be decent in the physical competitions and a hard worker at camp. Given that she’s on the Blue Collar tribe, this is probably what they care about pre-game.
Weaknesses – While we feel like age isn’t really a factor on the White Collar tribe, being older on the other two tribes could be an issue. Dan is technically the oldest on the tribe, but we could see both having issues fitting in with the younger crowd. Also, remember how we just said that she shouldn’t talk about being a cop? She loves her job, and we’re not sure that she will be able to keep that a secret the entire game.
Past “Survivor” comparison – Betsy was a cop on “Survivor: Samoa” with a similar disposition. She’s also a little bit of a friendlier Sue Hawk or Julie from “Redemption Island.”
Prediction – It’s interesting that Kelly may be the rare cop on the show who doesn’t have a cutthroat instinct. We feel like her ceiling is getting in good with an alliance and making it really far as a loyal part of that. However, we don’t see her making the moves necessary to convince a jury she deserves to win this game. We see her as a great character and probably a fun part of the show, but we have no sense of her strategy.
