‘The Following’ season 3 spoilers: Shawn Ashmore teases new Big Bad

If you wanted another reason to be excited about the third season of “The Following” on Fox, we feel like we have it for you now courtesy of star Shawn Ashmore: More evidence that the Big Bad for the season is going to blow you away.

First of all, you just need to know the news that this villain is played by Michael Ealy to be excited. After all, this was a man who rocked it out in “Sleeper Cell,” and we know he can terrify us here. This is almost precisely what Ashmore (who plays Mike on the show) even said in a recent teaser to TVLine:

“We cannot find a chink in the armor, we cannot find a weakness. It’s a totally different take on the extremely evil, powerful, demented villain.”

If there is a sort of villain that we’d be interested to see on this show, it is one that is almost impenetrable in many ways, and is almost evil for the sake of it. A good comparison would be Lorne Malvo from “Fargo” this past season, or the Anton character from “No Country for Old Men.” A good villain does not need past ties to a character, and nor does he need some sort of emotional motivation. All they really need to do is have a good actor behind them, and writing that makes them feel truly terrifying.

This third season for “The Following” is going to be premiering on Fox come early March, so you have to believe that we’re going to have a whole lot more in the way of news before then.
