‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: Blake Shelton, Cecily Strong, and some Adam Levine mockery
We have to say that we’re both loving and dreading that Blake Shelton is going to be the host and musical guest on this weekend’s “Saturday Night Live.” On the positive side of things, he is someone we’ve been hoping to see on the show for much of the past two years. He’s hilarious on “The Voice,” and has such a natural fun demeanor about him.
However, we’re also afraid that this is a scenario where we will never have our high expectations met, mostly because we forget often that Blake is not an actor, and while funny, does not have much experience in sketch comedy. He’s a total fish out of water here, which is something that is even referenced in his promo with Cecily Strong.
This promo at least makes us a little optimistic that this show could work very well, given that Blake responds well to some of her jokes, makes fun of Adam Levine, and even has a good reaction time to a really terrible (but great) joke involving a tall drink of water at the very end of the video. We feel like Blake is at least going to be game to make fun of himself, and that is a good step in the right direction.
Ultimately, the biggest thing that we can say is that this is a very nice change from most of the hosts we’ve seen on the show over the years. Blake comes from a different background, and we do not exactly have a whole lot of country artists stopping by on the show these days. We’re not exactly sure why that is, but they just don’t seem to be booked often.
