‘Blue Bloods’ season 5, episode 12 review: Jamie tries to helps a kid in need

There was bound to be a little bit of a letdown on “Blue Bloods” Friday night, and for one very simple reason: We are talking here about an episode that was following up the 100th episode of the series.

With that, we just didn’t find a whole lot of fire in “Home Sweet Home,” at least other than that there were some nice moments in here all about family as Jamie decided that he was going to take in a child who was in desperate need of support. This story was at least emotional, and we appreciate that aspect of it. It just felt slightly predictable from start to finish, and we felt like in various forms, this was similar to so many other episodes.

The same here goes for what was ultimately the episode’s B story, and that was finding out a few more details about Danny’s latest conflict: Whether or not Linda is in the right for wanting her husband to be home more. This was complicated, but admittedly, we’re really not as interested in the home-life conflicts. We prefer them when they involve Frank, and they also have serious, ethical dilemmas that we see addressed in various forms in the police system.

In the end, the dinner scenes were pretty spectacular, as was Danny’s police work. The episode as a whole, though, just didn’t feel that exciting. We’re writing this only fifteen minutes after the episode, but we feel like we’ll have forgotten it in a week’s time. Grade: C+.
