‘Agent Carter’ spoilers: Hayley Atwell on advantage of short season
Come Tuesday, “Agent Carter” is going to premiere on ABC, and we’ll finally get a chance to see if the hype surrounding the show is justified. It may not necessarily be an essential part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, at least in that we know where Peggy ends up already, but for those wanting to know more about SHIELD’s history and potentially a few secrets that could come up later, this could be a nice way to spend some weeks early this year. After all, the show is only eight episodes, and then you will carry back into “Agents of SHIELD” season 2.
We have long been a proponent for shorter seasons, and based on how Hayley Atwell told TVLine about how this format allows the team to go full-tilt without any stalling, we may be more for it now than ever before:
“I was absolutely shocked and delighted when I started to read the later episodes and see the direction we’re going in … That’s one of the advantages of having only eight episodes, is that it’s not diluted over 22. This has a very strong story and is essentially four films.”
Of course, we will continue to wonder if there will be some more “films” of some capacity if the show ends up being a hit. Is it set in stone for Marvel to only do eight hours of this? Sometimes the term “limited series” is deceptive in that they are open to doing more, but this is a more complicated situation, given how everything on this show is really interwoven into the events and actions taking place in the present.
