‘Reign’ season 2, episode 10 (winter finale) preview: How Mary, Francis move forward

Reign Logo -Reign” made a bold move on this past episode of the show, and this is one that we know is still dividing fans.

Mary’s rape was pretty horrible to watch, and you knew from the moment that this happened that she was going to be changed forever.

So moving into Thursday night’s winter finale, where is this story going to go for this character? Executive producer Laurie McCarthy makes it clear in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly just how the consequences of these actions go so far as to make her vulnerable to almost everything in this world:

“It becomes a turning point for Mary. It becomes a turning point for her and her relationship with Francis; we’ll see them struggle to get past it, but it really is going to change everything. She’s somebody who was aware of the threats to her before, but she’s going to feel very vulnerable for the rest of the season. And then what they do in response to this, what the king and the queen of France, Mary and Francis, do in response to this, it’s going to really affect their rule moving forward.”

There is no real way for Mary to ever fully recover from something like this, and we have a hard time imagining that the show will ever fully move past it. All we can really hope for from the winter finale Thursday is that the ramifications of this are handled in a real, human way, and that some of the emotional process and pain expressed here, echoes and strikes a chord in the present.
