2014 AMAs: Iggy Azalea, Jennifer Lopez close with ‘Booty’ performance
The American Music Awards really like butts. That is the one big thing that we learned from watching the awards show tonight. Jessie J sang about it, the dancers showed us about it, and of course the specter of Kim Kardashian “breaking the internet” looms large.
In the end, though, the show this year concluded with quite possibly the most butt-friendly song of the year: “Booty.” Apparently, this was described as the moment we’d all been waiting for. Was it really worth that? The funny thing is that this song never was what we would consider a smash hit, and this was really just all about the spectacle of the song, and the subject matter.
Iggy Azalea and Jennifer Lopez hit the stage, and things just got pretty crazy from there. Did you expect anything else? We really didn’t, but we’ve had better closing numbers on this show over the years. Basically, this was just a booty showcase, which is so ridiculous that we cannot even begin to comprehend it. For everyone who claims that we are too superficial as humans, these sort of songs are probably why.
Maybe we are being far too cranky over something that a good bit of the audience probably really liked. We will at least give it credit for a pair of things here: Having a really cool lighting and stage set, and also for all of the quick costume changes. Maybe J.Lo can go and try out to be a magician somewhere after all of the little tricks that she managed to pull off over the course of this performance.
